Still Life
March 27th through April 7th
Important things to note about this assignment:
The still life cart will be in the center of the room for 2 full weeks.
You may choose your media.
This assignment will be carried out on large substrate.

Pay attention to negative space.
There are multiple ways to approach a still-life. Not all of them are photo-realistic. I encourage you to embrace your own style while staying true to what you've learned about shading a large spectrum of values and utilizing the space of the paper.
PENCIL
PEN/INK
BLACK CHARCOAL ON WHITE PAPER
WHITE CHARCOAL ON BLACK PAPER
CHARCOAL - A BIT MORE ABSTRACTED
CHALK PASTEL
(This can be really beautiful if done well and a myriad of values, shades and tints of colors are used. No flat application of color.)
Questions to ask yourself as you look at these:
1. What is happening in the background?
2. Where are the things located in the composition--toward the top, directly in the center, toward the bottom?
5. What's happening with the shadows and highlights?
4. How do I begin my still life?
This project is worth 150 points and will be due at the end of class on the 7th of April.
If you finish before April 7th, you must begin a smaller still life with a different medium in a different location of the room.
